Full Description
Dump tarps are designed to work with the front to back opening mechanism that comes on most dump beds (like on a dump truck or dump trailer). There is really no standardized way of building a dump tarp. The most common is 7'6" wide x (length of your bed) with a 4" pocket in the rear and grommets every 2' across the front. On tarps like this we will double stitch a 2" webbing into the hem on both side and across the front. This hem runs the full length of the tarp so when it is folded over at the rear to create a pocket the inside edge is two layers thick and reinforced with webbing all the way around the inside of the pocket. To attach the front of the tarp to your bed we machine punch in a #2 brass grommet every 24 inches. Most buyers do not want the extra holes in their tarp but we will add grommets to the sides at no extra cost if you need to strap the sides of your tarp down.
If you need your tarp made different that is definitely not a problem. Here are a couple questions you should ask yourself before placing a custom order.
Which material to do I need? Our sales are about 50/50 open mesh vs waterproof vinyl. Mesh will cost less and for some loads works better but if you need to keep loose loads (like sand) inside or water out vinyl is the way to go. Most people use 18oz but we keep the heavier 22oz also.
What width do you need?7'6" is the most popular size but we also build lots of 7' wide dump tarps and a few 8' wide.
How are you going to attach the front? Most dump tarps attach in the front through grommets. We usually space these out 24" apart but its not uncommon to get requests for 12". Some dump tarps attach in the front using a metal rod and need a pocket sewn into the front of the tarp for this rod to slide threw.
How are you going to attach the rear? Almost everyone need a pocket in the rear. Most use a 4" pocket but we have a few that request 2" or 6".
Do you need to attach the sides? Most don't but some buyers request grommets on the side and we have a few that require a 12-18" flap on each side.
